Tap Out is a quiet, hands-on survival game about making a small life in the wild. You start with nothing but two hands. Gather sticks, stones, and fiber, craft your first tools, and take it one gentle step at a time.

Spin a hand drill until a fire catches. Roast meat on a stick until it's golden (leave it too long and it burns). Build a lean-to and watch the rain and the dark nights roll past while you stay warm and dry.

Things to do

  • Fish. Bait a rod and cast out. Real fish swim up to the bobber, nibble, and bite. Reel in at the right moment.
  • Hunt and cook. Make a bow or spear, sneak up on deer, and bring the meat back to your fire.
  • Forage. Pick berries, mushrooms, and prickly pears. They grow back after a couple of days.
  • Build a camp. Make a lean-to for shelter, plant flags to mark where you've been, and set down a basket for storage.
  • Make a clay pot. Dig clay, shape a pot, and fill it from a lake or the rain to drink. Fire it hard and it becomes a lasting waterskin.
  • Chop and smash. Fell giant trees with a stone axe and break boulders with a pick axe.
  • Take to the water. Build a raft and drift out across the lake.

A world with weather. The land is shaped by erosion, soil, moisture, and temperature, so you'll find forests, mangroves, dry scrub, and cold slopes. Rain falls over damp country and turns to snow where it's cold. Keep an eye on four gauges (hunger, health, thirst, and how warm you feel), and the game stays comfortable as long as you do.

Deer, boar, bears, wolves, elephants, giraffes, eagles, fish, and many more share the world.

Tap Out is in development, built from scratch in Rust on a custom engine. Feedback is very welcome.
